On 15 April 2026, VERSAPRINT had the honour of organising the latest edition of the EU‑INGENIOuS Battery Cluster webinar series, bringing together experts from across the cluster’s sister projects to tackle one of the most pressing questions in the field: how do we ensure safety in next-generation battery designs?
The online session drew participants from BATSS, EXTENDED, NEXTBAT, and VERSAPRINT, creating a cross-project forum where each team shared their specific strategies, technological developments, and real test results around battery safety. The full recording of the webinar is available below — we encourage you to watch it in full.
Setting the Scene: VERSAPRINT Takes the Lead
The webinar was introduced and moderated by Lisa-Lou Gracia (CEA), Project Coordinator of VERSAPRINT, who framed the session’s ambition: to go beyond theory and give participants a concrete, multi-project view of how safety is being designed, tested, and validated in next-generation battery systems today.
The agenda unfolded across two structured sessions, each followed by an open Q&A, and concluded with a wrap-up and outlook on upcoming cluster events.
Session 1 — Strategies to Tackle Safety: Technological Bricks Within Projects
The first session explored how each project is building safety into its battery systems at a fundamental level — through materials choices, structural design, monitoring systems, and thermal management.

Session 2 — Verification of the Strategies: Tests, Plans, and Result
The second session moved from design intent to experimental evidence, with each project sharing how they are validating their safety strategies through real-world testing.
A Shared Step Forward for Battery Safety in Europe
This webinar demonstrated the real value of the EU‑INGENIOuS cluster model: by convening projects working on different battery chemistries and system architectures, the cluster enables a level of cross-fertilisation that no single project could achieve alone. Safety strategies that work for one system architecture can inform and accelerate the work of others.
For VERSAPRINT, organising this event was also an opportunity to present concrete results — not just strategies, but validated prototypes and real test data — to the wider European battery research community.
