VERSAPRINT joins key collaboration meeting on battery safety and innovation

On October 22, 2024, VERSAPRINT had the honor of participating in the annual collaboration meeting between the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA), and the European Green Vehicles Initiative Association for the 2ZERO Partnership (EGVIAfor2Zero). Held in Petten, Netherlands, this event brought together leaders from the battery and green vehicle sectors to advance discussions on battery technology, safety, and sustainability.

This key collaboration meeting on battery safety and innovation highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing safe and sustainable next-generation batteries. Industry experts from the EU-INGENIOuS battery cluster including its five projects BATSS, EXTENDED, NEXTBAT, TEMPEST, and VERSAPRINT, exchanged insights on the unique safety measures and challenges they encounter in battery system design. This enriching exchange opened up exciting possibilities for regulatory collaboration to address key safety and testing needs.

Our project coordinator, Lisa-Lou Gracia from CEA, presented VERSAPRINT’s innovative approach to battery safety, emphasising the project’s progress in mitigating thermal runaway and its propagation—a critical factor for battery safety. Her presentation underscored the project’s contributions to creating safer, more reliable battery systems in alignment with Europe’s green transition.

The JRC contributed insights on regulatory topics such as performance and durability requirements for the upcoming Batteries Regulation, standardisation initiatives by CEN-CENELEC, and the evolving safety standards for electric vehicles, including the proposed R100 revision for thermal propagation testing.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue collaboration and alignment efforts across EGVIAfor2Zero, BEPA, and JRC, setting a strong foundation for future developments in battery safety and sustainability.

Stay tuned for more updates as VERSAPRINT continues to collaborate with leading industry experts to drive Europe’s transition toward safer, sustainable energy solutions!
